How Can a Maternity Home Help Me?

What Is a Maternity Home?

Maternity homes are a refuge for single women facing unexpected pregnancies. The Salvation Army opened the first maternity home in 1886. The motivation was to provide safe housing and resources for women who were unmarried and pregnant. Because it was quite the stigma to be an unwed mother at the time, most homes placed the babies for adoption.

What Does the Maternity Home Provide?

Here, you will find a safe place to consider your options for your pregnancy. The following is a list of some of the services we offer:

  • 24/7 Support
  • Prenatal healthcare
  • Adoption information
  • Spiritual direction
  • Mentorship
  • Education
  • Transportation
  • Coordination with outside services and programs

Why Would I Come to the Maternity Home?

Often, women facing an unplanned pregnancy have nowhere to turn for help. They feel alone and desperate. But what if you could live in a safe home with others who help care for you and prepare you for a brighter future? That’s why teens and women come.

Should I Consider Making an Adoption Plan?

Placing your child for adoption is definitely an option. Although it is a difficult decision, it can provide you and your baby with a better future.

Today’s adoption process focuses on the expectant mother. You choose the potential adoptive parents and the adoption plan. You decide if your child should grow up in the city, on a farm, have older siblings, or be the oldest.

Whatever is important to you should be just as important to the adoptive couple. You can build a relationship with the couple even before your baby is born.

Adoption services cost you nothing, and we’ll provide thorough adoption counseling without pressure. When it comes time, you will be confident in whatever decision you make.
