3 Things Needed Before Abortion

If you are facing an unplanned pregnancy and considering abortion, there are three vital steps to take first. Start by confirming your pregnancy with a pregnancy test and ultrasound. Then, learn about all your options, including making an adoption plan.

Finally, meet with your healthcare provider to discuss your health and the potential physical and emotional consequences of abortion. You owe it to yourself to get the facts first.

Have You Confirmed Your Pregnancy?

Sometimes, there is more to know about a pregnancy than just a late period and a positive pregnancy test. You could have a change in your menstrual cycle because of stress, rapid weight gain or loss, or a hormonal imbalance.

At Lamb of God Maternity Home, we can recommend pregnancy resource centers that can assist you in confirming your pregnancy. You can take a free and confidential pregnancy test. If the test is positive, the center can schedule you for a free limited obstetrical ultrasound.

Discuss Your Options

Yes, abortion is one option for your pregnancy, but do you realize you have two others? Your other options include parenting or placing your child for adoption. Our caring team can help you sort through your options.

Have You Considered Making an Adoption Plan?

Many misunderstandings surround adoption. Today, the expectant woman or birth mother makes all the decisions for her child. She chooses the adoptive parents, the type of adoption plan that’s best for her, and the future she wants for her child.

Adoption costs the birth parents nothing. The adoptive parents cover your medical and legal expenses, and there is a possibility for other costs to be covered. We can help you receive the support and counseling you need through our maternity home.

What Do You Think About Parenting?

There’s no doubt about it: parenting is challenging but also very rewarding. We have access to various resources that could help you if you choose to parent. The following are some questions to ask yourself as you consider if parenting is right for you:

  • Will my parents or my partner support my decision?
  • Can I finish my education?
  • Can I continue working?
  • Where will we live?
  • Do I have the financial, physical, and emotional support I need?

Before an Abortion, Speak With Your HealthCare Provider

You should understand the various abortion procedures, side effects to expect, and possible risks. There are limitations for specific procedures. For instance, the FDA approves the use of the abortion pill through 10 weeks of pregnancy only (70 days from the first day of your last menstrual period).

According to the Mayo Clinic, some of the other reasons you cannot use this method are:

  • You have an intrauterine device (IUD) in place.
  • You have an ectopic pregnancy.
  • You have certain medical conditions like bleeding disorders.
  • You can’t make follow-up visits to the abortion provider or don’t have access to emergency care.
