Did You Know You Have Legal Rights as a Pregnant Teen?

You are protected as a pregnant or parenting student by the federal government under Title IX. Based on the Title IX law, you have the right to the following:

• To participate in all classes and extracurricular activities.
• To receive excused absences due to pregnancy or childbirth for as long as your doctor says it’s necessary.
• To allow you to make up any work that is required.
• To allow you to return to school at the same academic status.
• To be protected from any type of harassment due to being pregnant or a parent.
• To receive special services such as homebound instruction, at-home tutoring, or independent study. 

If you are not offered any of the above accommodations, you should report problems to your school’s Title IX Coordinator, counselor, or other staff member immediately.
