What Are My Second-Trimester Pregnancy Options?
Whether you’ve just discovered you’re pregnant or you’ve known for a while and can’t decide what to do, Lamb of God Maternity Homes are here for you. A second-trimester pregnancy means you are over 13 weeks pregnant.
However, you still have three options: have an abortion, make an adoption plan, or choose to parent. Let’s look closely at all three to help you determine your next step.
Are You Considering an Abortion?
California abortion laws ban abortion after “viability.” Viability is usually around 24 weeks when a fetus has the potential to live outside of the womb. A second-trimester pregnancy ends at 27 weeks.
Knowing exactly how far along you are in your pregnancy is vital. The FDA approves abortion pill drugs through 10 weeks of pregnancy only. Depending on how far along you are in your second trimester, you could have either a D&C (dilation and curettage) or a D&E (dilation and evacuation) abortion. Both procedures are more invasive.
At Lamb of God Maternity Homes, we do not refer for abortion. If you are considering an abortion and need to get a free ultrasound to determine how far along you are in your pregnancy, we can provide referrals to local pregnancy resource centers in our area.
What Are Your Thoughts About Adoption?
Horror stories abound about adoption, but the truth is the adoption process is very different from what you may have heard. Today, the expectant mother makes all of the adoption decisions.
Choosing to place your child for adoption isn’t an easy decision, but you can give them a bright and secure future. You can choose the couple that will raise your child, the future you hope your child will have, and the amount of contact you wish to have as your child grows.
As their birth mother, you will always have a place in your child’s life. By choosing an open or semi-open adoption plan, you can teach them about their heritage and have the confidence that they are loved and cared for.
While you are learning more about adoption and deciding if it’s right for you, we are ready and available to serve you.
What Do You Think About Parenting?
Parenting is a big responsibility, but our community provides many resources to assist you. As you consider parenting, ask yourself some of the following questions:
- Will my parents and partner support me if I choose to parent?
- Can I continue going to school or working?
- Where will my child and I live?
- What childcare is available?
- Can I be fully committed to parenting at this time?
Raising children today takes determination, but you may be surprised at the many benefits available. Talk with us about your situation to determine if parenting is possible for you.
